The Foreign Minister appointed Peter Cai as CEO of the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations (NFACR) on 1 December 2021. Before this, he was a non-resident Fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Policy and a committee member of the Australia-China Business Council (NSW). He was previously Group Chief Advisor in the office of the CEO and General Manager for Strategic Relations at Virgin Australia. He was also a member of Virgin Australia's Executive Committee (2016-2019).

Prior to this, he was a journalist with The Australian, The Age and Sydney Morning Herald, covering business and economic news and was the China editor and columnist at Business Spectator.
Before becoming a journalist, Peter worked at the Australian Treasury in the Foreign Investment Review Board Secretariat, focusing largely on state-owned enterprises and sovereign wealth fund investment policy.

Peter Cai holds a masters degree from Oxford University and undergraduate degrees in International Studies and Asian Studies from The University of Adelaide.

Simon Woods is the CEO and Executive Director of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai (AustCham Shanghai). He leads the secretariate in all matters to provide value to members of the Chamber and broader Chinese-Australian communities.

Simon has lived and worked in Shanghai since 2016, and brings a wealth of operational, China and global management experience. Prior to his time in China, Simon resided in Australia, where he developed a diverse range of knowledge across industries including logistics, FMCG, security and finance.

Simon utilises his broad range of industry, global management, and China-Australia experience to ensure a strong strategic direction for AustCham Shanghai that maximises member value, encourages and strengthens relationships, and develops improved understanding of China and Australia.
