Event Details

To keep members and the wider community informed, AustCham Shanghai and the Finance, Investment and Tax Forum will host an Economic and Finance Update virtually this Tuesday 26th April. This briefing follows on from our recent Community Town Hall addressing topical issues of concern for members.


This industry specific event will cover trends, policies and updates on China's economic growth in 2022. Kevin Xie, Senior Asia Economist from Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) will provide a macroeconomic update and Alan Chen, President of Fosun Capital Flagship Fund will provide an update on growth opportunities in China.


This industry forum is supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, and is open to both Chamber members and the public to keep our community informed and connected.

    Kevin Xie is a China Economist in the CommBank Global Markets Research Department. He is responsible for analysing and presenting macroeconomic trends in the Chinese economy and drawing implications for central bank’s policy interest rates. Prior to his current role, Kevin was a strategist on the CBA’s Fixed Income Strategy team. Prior to joining CBA in 2015, Kevin worked as a trader and quantitative analyst at Citi and in the hedge fund industry. He holds a PhD in Finance from University of New South Wales and has over 10-years financial markets experience in trading and macro strategy.

    • Mr. Chen is currently the president of Fosun Capital Flagship Fund. He has 21 years of financing and investment experience gained at several leading global financial institutions, covering commercial banking, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and investments. He has been dedicated to private equity investments over the past ten years.
    • Prior to joining Fosun, Mr. Chen was the Partner and Managing Director, Head of Private Equity of Ally Bridge Group.
    • Between 2011 and 2014, Mr. Chen was the Head of China for Permira, one of Europe's largest buy-out funds. He made significant contributions to Permira’s portfolio companies, such as Valentino, Hugo Boss, Netafim, etc., particularly in the design and implementation of their China strategies and other cross-border value-creation initiatives.
    • Between 2002 and 2011, Mr. Chen served Goldman Sachs (Asia) in Hong Kong as an Associate and later an Executive Director. In 2006, he led the investment in Shuanghui Group (now WH Group, HK: 00288). He also worked as a core team member in a number of landmark principal investment and advisory transactions including the GS’ investment in Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and HSBC’s strategic investment in and the subsequent overseas listing of Bank of Communications.
    • Prior to joining GS Asia, Mr. Chen was an Executive Trainee at HSBC Group. He was responsible for initiating and monitoring a portfolio of commercial loans extended to leading Chinese corporates.
