Drawing on decades of diplomatic and commercial experience, Geoff Raby will share his perspectives on China's future economic direction, regional influence, the evolving Australia–China relationship, and the opportunities and challenges facing Australian companies over the coming decade.

Geoffrey Raby Bio:

Geoff Raby is one of the region's foremost voices on business in China. He was Australia's Ambassador to China, having served earlier in his career as First Secretary (Economic) and then Counsellor (Economic), 1986-91. He was also Ambassador to the World Trade Organisation, Ambassador to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

After leaving government, he served as a Director at Fortescue Metals, OceanaGold, Yancoal, Isentia, and as the Chair of SmartTrans. He has also served as Chair of VisAsia at the New South Wales Art Gallery and as a member of the board of the foundations at the Gavan Institute and National Gallery of Victoria. He is currently Chair of the Australia-China Arts Residency.

Geoff publishes widely on China. He is the author of Great Game On: The Contest for Central Asia and Global Supremacy and China's Grand Strategy and Australia's Future in the World Order, and he is a regular contributor to the Australian Financial Review.

Geoff holds a PhD in economics and has been awarded the Order of Australia.

Casey Hall is the Shanghai Bureau Chief and Senior Companies Correspondent at Reuters, covering the biggest issues facing local and global businesses operating in China. The Australian-born journalist has been based in Shanghai since 2007.
